Sky Sports pundit shares score prediction for West Brom vs Birmingham City

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has predicted the outcome of West Brom vs Birmingham City this weekend.

Birmingham City make the short trip to The Hawthorns tomorrow afternoon, for what’ll be a tough Championship clash against promotion-chasers West Brom.

And it’s a return to a former club for new Blues boss Tony Mowbray who’s enjoyed a strong start to life at St Andrew’s.

He’s overseen four games so far with two wins, a draw and a loss in the last outing against Leicester City in the FA Cup.

As things stand, Birmingham City sit in 20th place of the table and have a seven-point cushion to QPR in 22nd, compared to West Brom up in 5th.

And writing his prediction for the game tomorrow, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton wrote:

“West Brom looked nailed on for a spot in the play-offs not too long ago, but a couple of defeats lately has seen the chasing pack catch up a bit. It doesn’t take a lot for that to happen in this league.

“Birmingham are 20th as the weekend starts but it won’t take them too long to climb the league as Tony Mowbray continues to get his ideas across. Can they cause a stir at The Hawthorns? I think they could grab a draw.”

Prutton predicted a 2-2 draw between the two Midlands clubs.

Blues on a high under Tony Mowbray

After the dire tenure of Wayne Rooney, it didn’t need much to give Blues a lift. But few thought Birmingham City would make such improvements in such a short space of time under Mowbray.

With the same set of players, now bolstered by the likes of Alex Pritchard and Seung-ho Paik, Mowbray had galvanised the side, and they now look set to climb to safety in the Championship.

It’s still early doors and Blues are still in a very perilous league position. But against West Brom this weekend, we should see signs of a much-improved Blues side; one that has much more confidence and a much clearer and simpler game plan.

West Brom are a very good team but they’ve been a bit inconsistent over the past few weeks, with three defeats in their last five games in all competitions.

And with the chasing pack catching up, there’s plenty of pressure on a depleted West Brom side to maintain their spot inside the top six.

That pressure could well play into Blues’ favour. But a draw would still be a very good point at The Hawthorns, where West Brom have taken 30 points from a possible 42 in the Championship this season.
