Birmingham City have seen plenty of change at St Andrew’s in recent months.
Much of that has come in the managerial dugout. It was John Eustace who started the season in chare of the Blues.
He was then replaced by Wayne Rooney in October. However, a disastrous spell in charge saw him sacked in January, and replaced by Tony Mowbray.
Even before then though, there has been change at the club in summer. That of course, saw American businessman Tom Wagner and his Knighthead company complete a takeover of the club.
In doing to, they replaced the Chinese-run Birmingham Sports Holdings, in taking control of the club.
Now it seems as though the change brought about by the new owners, is already been seen considerably by those working at Birmingham City.
Darren Carter comments on Birmingham City takeover
One person who is certainly familiar with Blues, is Darren Carter.
A boyhood fan of the club, the former midfielder began his career with Birmingham City, making over 50 first-team appearances for Blues.
He then returned to the club in 2021, this time taking over as manager of the club’s Women’s Team.
With Carter still in that role now, he has seen Birmingham City under both their former and current owners. Clearly, he seems to certain as to which have put the club in a better position.
Speaking on the Keep Right On podcast about how things have changed since Wanger and Knighthead took over the club, Carter said:
“It just didn’t feel like Birmingham City, and I remember saying if I could just pick us up and take us to another sight just on our own I would do that.
“Because you had a lot of people who were just super-drained and being completely overworked, under-resourced, underfunded. So to see the change now and to see where the football club currently is heading, is worlds apart from what I walked back into two years ago.”

Blues fans must be happier in current situation
You do feel that those of a Birmingham City persuasion will be much happier with their current situation.
Obviously, there are some decisions that have been made since the takeover that haven’t worked out.
The decision to replace Eustace with Rooney in particular is one that springs to mind.
Even so, it does appear as though the work behind the scenes, and the improvement in mood Carter alludes to here, suggests Birmingham City are moving in the right direction on the whole.
With Mowbray now in charge as well, Blues are also playing under a manager with the pedigree and experience to take them forward.
Given how they have invested in the transfer market so far, doing so again in the summer could therefore set the club up for an exciting period.
As a result, Carter and others connected with Birmingham City, have a right to feel much more positive about the club under Wagner’s ownership.
