Released Burnley man Matthew Lowton is currently on trial with Birmingham City as he searches for a new place to call home.
The 34-year-old right-back had spent the previous eight years with the Clarets, including a short loan spell with Huddersfield Town towards the end of his Turf Moor stay, before becoming a free agent this summer.
Birmingham World understands that he is now trialling with John Eustace’s side.
During his time with Burnley, Lowton made 203 appearances and lifted the Championship title in 2016 – the majority of his game time for the Clarets coming in the Premier League.

Prior to his time with the Lancashire outfit, the defender spent time with Sheffield United, where he also went on loan to Sheffield F.C. and Ferencvaros, and Aston Villa.
The Blues already have three right-back options at the club in Ethan Laird, Josh Williams and Marcel Oakley. The latter two youngsters may be pushed down the pecking order or potentially sent on loan should Lowton join the club, regardless he would certainly be a top pro to learn from.
Labelled ‘fantastic’ by former Terriers head coach Mark Fotheringham, the experienced Englishman made nine appearances for his side last season.
In full, Fotheringham said: “Matt Lowton is a fantastic boy, he’s played at the top end of the Championship and in the Premier League for a number of years now.
“He can play a number of positions which is important and he can help us set the standard in training and be a leader.”
Is Lowton next through the door?
Although no deal is done yet, it is certainly a possibility that the former Villa man may cross the divide and represent the Blues this season.
It could prove to be a shrewd addition. A player with top flight experience, undoubted quality and who is undoubtedly a model pro.
Only time will tell.
