Birmingham City midfielder Ivan Sunjjc said that his future was ‘up in the air’ at the start of pre-season.
Sunjic has started all five of Blues’ Championship games so far this season, but it was not how most Birmingham fans would have thought his season would start out.
After a poor loan move out to Hertha Berlin in the German Bundesliga last season, it left his future at St Andrew’s bleak.
“To be honest it was up in the air at the beginning,” Sunjic admitted when speaking to Birmingham Live.
“For me, my mentality is to train like I’m staying and if something happens, it happens, that is the nature of the game. It was up in the air, but as the days passed by I was hungry to show my abilities again.
I am glad that I am staying because the club is going in the right direction and I want to be part of that this season.”
Sunjic on conversations with Eustace

Furthermore, Sunjic went into detail about a conversation he had with manager John Eustace just before the start of the season, and how he felt Eustace wanted him at the club.
“We spoke a couple of days before the start of the season and he asked where my head was at, and I told him my head was already here.
“The transfer window was already basically gone. He just wanted to make sure that every player’s head was in the squad. I felt like he wanted me here.
“To be honest, if I had done the pre-season here and the club is going in a good direction, if I didn’t leave in the first couple of weeks of the window I want clarity in my head – I’m staying and that’s it.”
