Birmingham City manager John Eustace admitted he may have to rethink who takes his side’s penalties after Scott Hogan’s miss in their 1-1 draw with Millwall.
In one of three lunchtime Championship fixtures on Saturday afternoon, it was the Lions that took the lead through Kevin Nisbet after six minutes.
In the fifth minute added on before the end of the first half, Blues’ had a chance to draw level, but Hogan missed what was his second in 2023.
Eustace admitted post match that this may force his hand to change who takes penalties in the future, telling the Birmingham Mail.
“It’s something we might discuss, but I want people to take the penalties who are very confident. Scott is confident at the moment after he scored two in two. When he picked it up I had no problems, but it might be a discussion we have going forward.”
What John Eustace though of the performance

Birmingham wanted to bounce back after their EFL Cup defeat to Cardiff last week. Eustace said he thought his side played well overall throughout the game, and thought they did especially well at defending Millwall’s set pieces.
“I thought we started the first half really well,” Eustace said. “I think they scored against the run of play. We have to remember that’s the first time we have been behind this season and I thought the lads showed great character to stay in that first half without Millwall causing us many problems.
“We finished the first half well and were disappointed not to go in at half-time 1-1. At half-time the lads really drove the meeting and knew what we needed to do. We adjusted a few things at half-time and I thought we played well second half. We scored a fantastic goal and stuck to the game plan.
“This group of players have fantastic character. They have a lot of belief in each other and know when they are going through difficult moments. They stick together.
“The way we defended, I think it was 20 set pieces today, was outstanding. Millwall are a very good Championship team, but the way we defended their long balls and direct play was very good.”
