Wayne Rooney makes surprise Birmingham City training decision after winless start

Birmingham City remain winless under new manager Wayne Rooney.

Birmingham City lost 3-1 away at Sunderland in the Championship on Saturday, with former player Jobe Bellingham coming back to haunt Blues.

He was on the scoresheet as the Black Cats claimed a routine win over Birmingham City, who in five games under Rooney have taken just one point.

The club have now slipped down into 18th place of the Championship table after John Eustace left them in 6th place at the end of the last international break, but for this international break, Rooney apparently has a plan.

Rooney sets ‘tailored’ Birmingham City fitness plans…

An exclusive report from Daily Mail has claimed that Rooney has given the bulk of his Birmingham City first-team ‘tailored schedules’ for the break.

The report adds that many of the first-team players won’t be at the training ground for the first week of this month’s international break and will instead be working on individual schedules.

Rooney is looking to drastically improve the fitness levels of his side and he’s also putting an emphasis on injury prevention, per Daily Mail, with the club having had some pressing injuries already this season.

Blues back stronger?

Not having all the players together on the training ground for the first week of this two-week hiatus seems like an odd decision.

Blues need togetherness right now but instead, the players will be left to their own accord, to work on their own individual routines.

Rooney is yet to cover himself in any glory as Birmingham City boss and this latest decision may draw more questions and critique from fans, with many already feeling like Rooney is not the answer.

Expect him to be given some more time to implement his ideas and philosophies, though, with the board seemingly keen for the ex-England man to make his mark.

And Blues have a great opportunity to return to winning ways when they host bottom club Sheffield Wednesday after the international break.
