Birmingham City were certainly busy in the summer transfer window.
After the takeover of the club by American businessman Tom Wagner and his company Knighthead was confirmed, the Blues’ new chairman wasted no time in making his mark at St Andrew’s.
In total, no fewer than 12 new players were added to the first-team squad before the window closed at the start of September.
Some of those, such as Jay Stansfield, Siriki Dembele and Koji Miyoshi have been regular and at times influential figures for the club.
As a result, Birmingham City may look to those players to get them out of trouble in the battle to avoid relegation from the Championship.
However, there is one summer signing it seems the Blues will now not be able to turn, over the remainder of the campaign.
Gary Rowett issues Birmingham City injury update
Earlier this month, it was announced that Gary Rowett had returned to St Andrew’s as interim manager until the end of the season.
That came after Birmingham City picked up just one point in six games after Tony Mowbray temporarily stepped back from his managerial role with the club for health reasons.
As a result of that run, Rowett returns with the club 21st in the Championship table. They are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.
His first game since returning is a huge one. The Blues travel to Loftus Road on Friday to face QPR, who are just one position and one point better off in the table.
Providing an update on the fitness situation within his Birmingham City squad ahead of that game, Rowett revealed that attacker Oliver Burke is likely to miss the rest of the season through injury.
As a result, that looks to be one summer signing that has simply now worked out for the Blues.

Oliver Burke loan move has flopped
Back on the final day of the summer transfer window, Burke joined Birmingham City on a season-long loan from German side Werder Bremen.
But having made that move, the 26-year-old struggled to ever really get going in the Midlands.
In total, he made only 20 Championship appearances for the Blues, only ten of which were as a starter.
During that time, the attacker was unable to score any goals, or provide a single assist.
As a result, he was unable to really demonstrate the potential that convinced RB Leipzig to spend £13million on him when he was a teenager.
Indeed, his last outing for Birmingham City came in the 3-0 defeat to Leeds United on New Year’s Day.
Since then, he has found himself sidelined under Mowbray and Venus, in what one will hope did not cause too much of a distraction around the club, given the uncertainty it may have generated.
He has also been taking up a space in the squad, that may have otherwise been filled by someone who could have played a part in picking up the points the Blues need to stay in the division.
Now, with Rowett revealing that Burke looks set to miss the rest of the season, he is not going to change the narrative, and return to play his part in helping Birmingham City to safety either.
With that in mind, it sadly feels hard to spot a way in which this deal has worked out for anyone involved.
As a result, it would feel like a big surprise if Burke is still on the books at Birmingham City next season, regardless of what division they are in.
