Birmingham City want ‘ridiculously talented’ wonderkid likened to Lionel Messi

Birmingham City are eyeing up a talented wonderkid as Tony Mowbray aims to bolster his squad in this window.

Birmingham City confirmed their first signing of the window after capturing Andre Dozzell on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

But Tony Mowbray is on the lookout for more players who are strong in possession.

The 60-year-old has already shown his desire to raid his former club for attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard, who sees his contract expire at Sunderland in the summer.

And it appears their craving for attack-minded midfielders doesn’t stop there.

The Blues have now been linked with Liverpool wonderkid Mateusz Musialowski.

Birmingham City want Mateusz Musialowski

According to the Mail Online, Musialowski has emerged as a target for Birmingham.

The 20-year-old is an attacking midfielder who has been likened to Lionel Messi for his dribbling ability, quick feet, great balance and can finish on either foot.

Musialowski sees his contract at the Reds expire in the summer, but he is highly rated by the club and he has been praised for his domineering displays in the youth side this term.

In 11 appearances for the U21s, he’s found the back of the net six times and grabbed two assists.

Three of those strikes have come across four appearances in the EFL Trophy with the youngster proving he can handle himself against senior sides.

He’s scored against Morecambe, Blackpool and Barrow, but now wants to show he can do it at Championship level.

Mowbray could get the best out of Musialowski

Several Liverpool youngsters, including Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho, have gone out on loan this term and now it’s time for the Polish wonderkid to prove he can do it in the Championship.

Although he’s never had experience in the second tier, having Mowbray as his mentor can play a crucial role in his development.

Throughout his managerial career, he’s shown he can get the best out of youngsters.

During his time at Sunderland, he was praised for developing Jack Clarke into a “super talent”, he transformed Dan Neil into a superb midfielder and helped goalkeeper Anthony Patterson become one of the best shot-stoppers in the Championship.

If he can get his hands on Musialowksi, there’s no doubt the “ridiculously talented” 20-year-old, as dubbed by journalist Lewis Bower, would come on leaps and bounds.

After all, he does have the creativity and guile to help Birmingham unlock defences.

In his four EFL Trophy matches, he averaged 1.5 key passes per game, 3.5 shots and 2.5 successful dribbles, as per Sofascore.

Despite those matches being at a lower level, Mowbray is crying out for a creative spark in-behind Jay Stansfield and the Polish wonderkid could provide that.
