Sky Sports pundit predicts shock result in Plymouth Argyle vs Birmingham City

Birmingham City head to Plymouth Argyle in the Championship this weekend.

Birmingham City head to managerless Plymouth Argyle tomorrow afternoon as they look to continue this upturn in performances under Wayne Rooney.

And there’s been a slight upturn in form to with Blues claiming a rare away win last week, wining 1-0 at Cardiff City before losing 3-2 against Leicester City at St Andrew’s in what was a hard-fought display.

Plymouth have been steadily slipping down the table in recent weeks and have recently lost manager Steven Schumacher who’s headed to Stoke City.

The Green Army currently sit in 16th and won their last outing 3-2 against Rotherham United; they’re level on points with Blues in 17th, with a win for either side able to lift them as high as 14th.

David Prutton predicts Birmingham City loss at Plymouth

Making his prediction for Plymouth Argyle vs Birmingham City, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton predicted a Blues defeat.

Predicting a 2-1 home win, he wrote:

It came as a bit of a shock to see Steven Schumacher up and leave Plymouth Argyle this week, but it has happened to them recently when Ryan Lowe moved on, and they handled that very well. Who comes in next has a big job on their hands to keep their current upward trajectory going.

Wayne Rooney also has a big job on his hands at Birmingham. Leicester were the wrong team to run into as they tried to build some momentum, and I think Plymouth could also be tough as they rally from losing their leader. Home win.”

A surprising prediction?

Birmingham City have definitely made improvements in their last two games.

After a tough start under Rooney, it seems like the players are steadily buying into the former England man’s new ideas and new methods, and it helps that players like Jordan James and Siriki Dembele are starting to come to life as well.

And with Plymouth without a manager, it seemingly puts the momentum with Birmingham City, contrary to Prutton’s prediction.

But Plymouth remain a strong team, especially at home; the home form table has Plymouth Argyle 5th out of all the Championship teams, with the south coast club having taken 22 points from 11 home games this season.

In that sense, it’ll certainly be tough for Blues. But Plymouth are facing a new-look Birmingham City side who will press them relentlessly in their own back garden, so how this managerless team will deal with that remains to be seen.

It should be an interesting watch and another positive performance for Blues would really put some wind in their sails ahead of January.
